Job Description

Job Purpose

  • Lead wind resource-linked renewable energy project development initiatives to ensure a financially prudent and operationally feasible future power project portfolio.
  • Assess and analyze wind resource potential across India for wind/hybrid energy projects.
  • Provide accurate and detailed information on wind resource characteristics such as wind speed, direction, turbulence, and other meteorological factors affecting wind power generation.
  • Stay updated on regulatory frameworks, wind/hybrid development activities, and potential areas/sites to guide the organization's entry into the wind energy business.

Job Context & Major Challenges

  • Availability and quality of accurate, reliable meteorological data is limited, especially in remote or undeveloped regions.
  • Wind flow patterns are complex due to factors like topography, land cover, obstacles, and environmental changes, requiring advanced modeling expertise.
  • Wind resources vary naturally over time, adding uncertainty to predictions; capturing spatial variations in wind speed/direction is critical for turbine placement.
  • Continuous advancements in turbine technology and data collection necessitate staying current with industry developments.
  • Environmental factors such as impacts on wildlife, habitats, and local communities must be integrated into assessments.
  • Navigating diverse regional and national regulatory and policy frameworks is necessary to ensure compliance with permits and environmental impact requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

Data Analysis

  • Collect, process, and analyze meteorological data including historical wind speed and direction to identify patterns, trends, and variations at potential sites.

Site Assessment

  • Conduct on-site visits to evaluate topography, terrain, and other factors affecting wind flow and energy production.
  • Analyze site suitability for wind turbines, identify obstacles or constraints, and estimate energy yield.

Modeling and Simulation

  • Use specialized software tools to simulate wind flow and predict wind resource potential.
  • Input meteorological data, conduct statistical analyses, and generate wind resource maps and reports.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and environmental specialists to integrate wind resource data into project designs.
  • Communicate complex technical information and recommendations effectively to stakeholders.

Continuous Monitoring and Research

  • Monitor operational wind farms to validate wind resource predictions and identify discrepancies.
  • Keep updated with latest research, industry trends, and technological advances in wind resource assessment and renewable energy.

Met Mast Installation

  • Identify potential wind areas and oversee installation and maintenance of meteorological masts for energy assessment, aligned with business plans and project pipelines.

Direct Reports

Met Mast Installation and Maintenance Engineer (1 Nos)

  • Ensure safe, timely installation and maintenance of met masts across various locations in India.
  • Regularly update and maintain wind data in the ABREL database.
  • Requires extensive travel and prompt action to minimize downtime.
  • Qualification: Degree in electrical/electronics engineering with 12-15 years of relevant experience.

Relationships

Internal

  • Frequent interaction with Land Acquisition, Business Development, Operations, Procurement, Finance, and Design teams.

External

  • Regular coordination with Meteorological Departments, Software and Technology providers, Windmill manufacturers, and other market developers.
