Job Title: Form 990 / Exempt Organization Tax Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Form 990 Specialist to manage compliance and reporting requirements for tax-exempt organizations. The role involves preparation, review, and electronic filing of Form 990, ensuring adherence to IRS regulations and governance disclosure standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review Form 990, 990-EZ, and 990-N filings for tax-exempt organizations.
• File extension requests using Form 8868 when required.
• Ensure compliance with IRS electronic filing requirements under the Taxpayer First Act of 2019.
• Monitor filing deadlines (15th day of the 5th month after fiscal year-end).
• Review executive compensation disclosures and governance reporting for compliance with IRC Section 4958.
• Advise nonprofit clients on best practices for board governance policies (whistleblower, document retention, compensation review).
• Assist clients in preventing automatic revocation under the Pension Protection Act of 2006.
• Respond to IRS notices and manage penalty resolutions.
• Maintain documentation for audit and regulatory purposes.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
• 3–6+ years of experience in nonprofit tax compliance or exempt organization reporting.
• Strong working knowledge of Form 990, 990-EZ, and 990-N.
• Familiarity with IRS compliance regulations for Section 501 organizations.
• Experience with electronic filing platforms and tax software.
• Strong analytical and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA / CA / EA certification (preferred).
• Experience handling executive compensation review processes.
• Knowledge of nonprofit governance best practices.
• Experience working with U.S. tax regulations.
