Job Description – Technical Writer (Grade 8) – Cisco

Cisco's Technical Communications team is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to create high‑quality, AI‑ready content for advanced networking products. In this role, you will use in‑house AI tools to simplify complex technical concepts, develop unified content strategies, and collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and AI specialists. You will lead content planning, mentor junior writers, and contribute to AI‑driven workflow innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Create clear, user‑centric technical content for complex networking products.
• Use AI tools to enhance content creation and analysis.
• Define content standards, release processes, and best practices.
• Partner with engineering and product teams to represent user needs.
• Lead content planning, resource allocation, and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Support integration of GenAI in documentation workflows.
• Mentor and guide junior writers.

Minimum Qualifications

• 7+ years of technical writing experience.
• Strong writing skills and understanding of technical writing principles.
• Knowledge of Generative AI, prompt engineering, and ethical AI use.
• Ability to understand and simplify complex networking technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
• Experience leading teams and driving innovation.
• Knowledge of content structures, CMS, and governance.
• Familiarity with DITA/XML or other structured authoring environments.
