Position Summary:
As a Specialist - Indirect Tax Operations, you will be a vital individual contributor within our Taxation team, primarily focusing on ensuring compliance with indirect tax laws and regulations across multiple domestic and/or international jurisdictions. This role emphasizes applying deep technical and discipline knowledge to manage tax liabilities, prepare and file tax forms, and maintain meticulous tax-specific records. You will work independently within defined boundaries, providing solutions to common business issues, while seeking guidance on more complex or non-routine topics. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring accurate tax operations and supporting broader tax planning initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Indirect Tax Compliance & Filing:Perform accurate calculation of indirect tax liabilities (e.g., GST/VAT, sales tax, customs duties) in accordance with relevant laws and allied rules.
- Prepare and ensure timely and accurate external filing and reporting of various indirect tax forms and returns.
- Handle tax-specific transaction recording and maintain comprehensive tax records for audit readiness.
- Tax Analysis & Interpretation:Conduct tax research, analysis, and interpretation of indirect tax provisions for compliance, tax planning, and optimization purposes.
- Apply practical methods and techniques, work procedures, and processes to resolve common business issues within indirect tax operations.
- Issue Resolution & Collaboration:Work independently to resolve most indirect tax operational situations, exercising judgment within established practices and procedures.
- Seek advice, guidance, and support from more experienced colleagues or leaders on complex or non-routine indirect tax matters.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and potentially external experts or agencies on specific indirect tax matters.
- Process Improvement:Contribute to identifying opportunities for improving indirect tax operational processes and procedures, and implement chosen solutions effectively.
- Knowledge & Mentoring:Leverage your in-depth knowledge and experience in indirect taxation to support and, at times, coach or mentor less experienced staff within the team.
- Understand the overall nature of the business and the interdependencies between indirect tax and other functions.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous work experience in a related indirect tax area, or practical knowledge obtained via advanced education, is required.
- Tax Knowledge: In-depth knowledge and experience in indirect tax laws, compliance, and operational processes.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities for tax research, calculation, and problem-solving.
- Autonomy: Ability to work independently within defined guidelines and make choices between known alternatives within the area of expertise.
- Communication: Good communication skills to interact with colleagues and, when necessary, external parties.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and reporting.
