Software Asset Management - ITAM

We are seeking a diligent and experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) / IT Asset Management (ITAM) Specialist to manage and optimize our software and IT asset lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be responsible for tracking, monitoring, and managing software licenses and IT assets to ensure compliance, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency. This role requires a strong understanding of SAM best practices, license models, and IT asset lifecycle management.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Manage the full lifecycle of software assets, from procurement to retirement, including tracking purchases, deployments, usage, and disposal.
• Ensure software license compliance by regularly reconciling deployed software with purchased licenses and identifying any discrepancies.
• Conduct software license reviews and audits, both internal and in response to vendor requests, to minimize compliance risks and penalties.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings through license optimization, rationalization, and reclaiming unused software.
• Maintain an accurate and up-to-date Software Asset Register and IT Asset Database.
• Develop and implement SAM/ITAM policies, processes, and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Collaborate with procurement, IT operations, legal, and finance teams to ensure integrated and consistent asset management practices.
• Utilize SAM/ITAM tools (e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow, Snow Software, etc.) for automated discovery, inventory, and reconciliation.
• Generate regular reports on software license positions, asset utilization, and compliance status for management.
• Support contract negotiations with software vendors by providing accurate license consumption data and forecasts.
• Participate in hardware asset management activities as they intersect with software dependencies.
• Stay informed about changes in software licensing models and industry trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Proven experience in Software Asset Management (SAM) and/or IT Asset Management (ITAM).
• Strong understanding of various software licensing models (e.g., per user, per processor, core-based, subscription, SaaS).
• Familiarity with major software vendors' licensing terms (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Adobe).
• Experience with SAM/ITAM tools for discovery and inventory management.
• Knowledge of IT infrastructure components (servers, networks, databases, cloud services).
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and license agreements.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CSAM, CITAM) are a plus.
