Senior Resident/ Attending - Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Key Responsibilities:

1. Obstetric Care

• Conduct and manage normal and assisted vaginal deliveries.
• Assist or perform cesarean sections under supervision (or independently, if trained).
• Monitor antenatal and postnatal patients and manage obstetric complications such as:
• Pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, gestational diabetes, postpartum hemorrhage, etc.
• Provide care in high-risk pregnancies in coordination with the neonatology and anesthesiology teams.

2. Gynecological Care

• Attend to OPD and inpatient gynecology cases including:
• Menstrual disorders, fibroids, endometriosis, infertility, PCOS, and infections.
• Assist or perform minor gynecological procedures (D&C, endometrial biopsy, IUD insertion).
• Support senior consultants in major surgeries (hysterectomy, myomectomy, laparoscopy).

3. Emergency & Labour Room Duties

• Handle gynecological and obstetric emergencies (ectopic pregnancy, ruptured uterus, miscarriage).
• Provide round-the-clock support during on-call or emergency shifts.

4. Academic & Teaching (If in a Teaching Hospital)

• Conduct bedside teaching for interns and medical students.
• Participate in case presentations, journal clubs, and departmental CMEs.
• Maintain clinical and surgical logs for academic documentation.

5. Documentation & Protocol Compliance

• Maintain accurate patient records including history, examinations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
• Ensure documentation of delivery notes, operative procedures, and consent forms.
• Follow hospital infection control, patient safety, and medical ethics protocols.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Required Qualification:
• MS / DNB in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from a recognized institution
• Registration:
• Valid NMC / State Medical Council registration
• Experience:
• Senior Resident: 0–3 years post-PG experience
• Attending: 3–5+ years of independent experience in OBG clinical practice

Skills & Competencies:

• Competency in labor room management, normal and operative deliveries
• Sound clinical judgment in handling obstetric and gynecologic emergencies
• Basic surgical skills and familiarity with gynecological procedures
• Good interpersonal communication and team collaboration
• Empathetic patient care and ability to handle sensitive cases
