Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pre-Anesthesia Assessment
- Evaluate cardiac surgical patients pre-operatively for anesthesia fitness.
- Discuss anesthetic risks and obtain informed consent.
- Optimize comorbidities including cardiac function, coagulation, and ventilation status.
2. Intraoperative Anesthesia Management
- Administer and monitor anesthesia for:
- Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
- Valve replacements/repairs
- Congenital heart defect surgeries
- Aortic and major vascular procedures
- Thoracic surgeries (VATS, thoracotomies)
- Manage patients on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), off-pump, and ECMO (if trained).
- Perform invasive line placements (arterial lines, CVP, PA catheter), TEE (if trained), and manage hemodynamic monitoring.
- Ensure strict asepsis and adherence to cardiac anesthesia protocols.
3. Postoperative & ICU Management
- Provide immediate post-operative care in the Cardiothoracic ICU.
- Manage pain relief, ventilation, hemodynamic support, and complications.
- Collaborate with cardiac surgeons and intensivists for continuity of care.
4. Emergency Services
- Respond to intra-hospital cardiac emergencies and code blue situations.
- Provide anesthesia for emergency cardiac and thoracic surgeries as required.
5. Academic & Research (for teaching hospitals)
- Participate in teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and students.
- Attend and contribute to academic activities such as CMEs, case discussions, journal clubs.
- Engage in research, data collection, and publications.
