Senior IT Technologist - Release Management
Job Description
As a Senior IT Technologist - Release Management at Medtronic, you will be a seasoned individual contributor responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of software releases. This includes meticulous planning, scheduling, and controlling development and deployment processes across multiple platforms. You will play a critical role in ensuring that software releases are delivered on time, within scope, and with exceptional quality, directly contributing to Medtronic's purpose of breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.
A Day in the Life
You will drive efficient and high-quality software releases by:
- Managing and coordinating the end-to-end release process, including planning, scheduling, and executing software releases across multiple platforms.
- Collaborating with development, QA, and operations teams to ensure the smooth and timely deployment of software.
- Creating and maintaining a release calendar, working closely with stakeholders to align releases with business priorities.
- Identifying, managing, and mitigating risks and issues related to software releases.
- Ensuring that release processes and procedures are followed, including adherence to change management and compliance requirements.
- Conducting release readiness reviews, milestone reviews, and go/no-go decision meetings.
- Documenting and communicating release plans, schedules, and status updates to all stakeholders.
- Continuously improving release management processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Developing and managing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and report on the success of release activities.
- Establishing and maintaining release cadence and coordinating activities across technical teams.
- Building and maintaining deployment schedules and activities across multiple non-production environments.
- Facilitating status meetings and release planning meetings.
- Building detailed cutover plans and clearly understanding the dependencies across the release.
- Ensuring all required tasks are included on the cutover plan and executed in the allotted time.
- Driving continuous improvement to make each release process better and faster.
- Providing clear verbal and written communications to teams and stakeholders.
- Building detailed refresh activity plans and understanding dependencies for each environment refresh.
- Ensuring all required tasks are included on the refresh activity plan and executed in the allotted time.
- Coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level specialists; potentially managing projects/processes.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Requires advanced knowledge of the job area, combining breadth and depth, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
- 7+ years of experience with a bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience as an IT Release Manager or in a similar role within a software development environment.
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
- Experience with release management tools and technologies.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- May have practical knowledge of project management.
