Job Description
Scope of Work – Senior Mechanical Engineer (Shipbuilding Industry)
- Installation & Commissioning
- Supervise contractors during the installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment onboard ships, including diesel generators (DG), pumps, engines, valves, and hydraulic systems.
- Ensure proper alignment, leveling, and secure mounting of equipment in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Supervise testing and commissioning activities to verify operational readiness and compliance with quality standards.
- Engineering & Technical Expertise
- Apply fundamental engineering knowledge to evaluate, select, and integrate equipment such as pumps, engines, generators, and hydraulic systems.
- Review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, data sheets, and technical documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Provide engineering solutions to address foundation issues, alignment challenges, and integration with ship systems.
- Quality Control & Inspection
- Coordinate with QC teams to prepare equipment for performance inspection (PI).
- Conduct inspections and surveys postinstallation to verify compliance with project requirements and classification society standards.
- Document inspection results and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Project Documentation & Review
- Generate, review, and approve mechanical project documents including drawings, specifications, and data sheets.
- Maintain accurate records of installation, commissioning, and inspection activities for project handover.
- Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary technical interface with customers, ensuring clear communication and addressing concerns effectively.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of safety and quality.
- Support project managers in planning, scheduling, and resource allocation for mechanical activities.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with shipyard safety regulations and international standards.
- Promote safe working practices during cutting, welding, lifting, and installation operations.
