Salesforce Senior Backend Developer

As a Salesforce Senior Backend Developer at Medtronic, you will be a seasoned individual contributor responsible for evaluating, designing, developing, and optimizing robust backend programs and integrations within our Salesforce ecosystem. You'll analyze existing functionalities, formulate logic for new systems, and ensure seamless data flow for critical internal functional areas like finance, human resources, and marketing. Your expertise will directly contribute to breaking down barriers to innovation and championing healthcare access and equity at Medtronic.

A Day in the Life

You will drive Salesforce backend excellence and system optimization by:

• Evaluating, designing, developing, and modifying Apex programs and backend logic for internal functional areas, including finance, human resources, and marketing.
• Analyzing existing Salesforce customizations and integrations or formulating logic for new backend system designs.
• Developing detailed system design documentation, performing Apex coding, and thoroughly testing/debugging backend programs.
• Creating ad hoc or bolt-on programs for complex Salesforce integrations using REST/SOAP APIs, Platform Events, or Change Data Capture (CDC).
• Developing conversion and system implementation plans for backend data and logic.
• Preparing and obtaining approval of system and programming documentation for Salesforce backend solutions.
• Recommending changes in Salesforce development, maintenance, and system standards, ensuring adherence to best practices and governor limits.
• Training users on system enhancements and modifications related to backend changes.
• Providing patch and software upgrades to existing Salesforce systems as required.
• Correcting program errors, preparing operating instructions, and compiling documentation for backend program support.
• Analyzing Salesforce system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
• Working closely with functional users and IT teams to enhance and maintain Salesforce backend programs, including Apex, SOQL, and database interactions.
• Acting as a seasoned individual contributor, working independently under limited supervision to determine and develop solutions.
• Potentially coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level specialists or managing specific projects related to Salesforce backend development.
• Communicating with senior internal stakeholders and vendors, exchanging information to achieve objectives and influence decision-making.

Required Knowledge and Experience

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent for degrees earned outside of the U.S.).
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, in Salesforce development with a strong focus on backend.
• Strong proficiency in Apex development, including triggers, controllers, batch Apex, scheduled Apex, and Queueable Apex.
• Expertise in SOQL and SOSL for efficient data retrieval and manipulation within Salesforce.
• Proven experience with Salesforce integration patterns, including REST/SOAP APIs, Platform Events, and middleware integration.
• Deep understanding of Salesforce Governor Limits and best practices for writing efficient and scalable code.
• Experience with Salesforce data model design and effective use of standard and custom objects.
• Proficiency in Apex unit testing and ensuring high code coverage.
• Familiarity with Salesforce development lifecycle (SDLC) tools and methodologies (e.g., Salesforce DX, CI/CD pipelines).
• Ability to analyze existing programs and formulate logic for new systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• May have practical knowledge of project management.

Nice to Haves

• Salesforce Platform Developer I and/or II Certification.
• Experience with specific Salesforce Clouds (e.g., Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud).
• Knowledge of Lightning Web Components (LWC) or Aura Components for understanding full-stack interactions.
• Experience with DevOps practices for Salesforce.
