SITE RELIABILITY ENGINEER (SRE) - TOOLS & AUTOMATION

The Client Services Engineering (ASE) organization builds the foundational infrastructure for global services like iCloud, iTunes, Siri, and Maps. We are the bedrock upon which our developers build the products our customers love.

We are seeking a passionate Site Reliability Engineer with a developer's mindset to join our team. This is a unique 'Builder ' role: approximately 80% of your time will be dedicated to greenfield development, engineering a brand-new, mission-critical internal tool designed to streamline global operations. • KEY RESPONSIBILITIESGreenfield Tool Development: Lead the design and implementation of a next-generation internal platform using modern software development practices.
• API Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable RESTful APIs that serve as the glue between our new tooling and existing global infrastructure.
• System Integration: Orchestrate seamless interactions between internal services and third-party platforms via complex API integrations.
• Code Excellence: Write clean, maintainable, and high-performance code in Python, participating in rigorous code reviews to ensure engineering excellence.
• Full Lifecycle Ownership: Drive the entire software development lifecycle—from initial requirements gathering and architectural design to testing, deployment, and long-term evolution.
• Operational Reliability: Ensure the new platform meets 'Client-scale ' standards for high availability, performance, and observability.

• REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEPython Mastery: Expert-level Python development skills for backend services, complex scripting, and systems automation.
• API Engineering: Proven experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and managing complex service integrations.
• Linux Systems: Deep, 'under-the-hood ' understanding of Linux operating systems and systems programming.
• CI/CD & DevOps: Practical experience building and managing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipelines (Git, Jenkins, Spinnaker) and automated release workflows.
• Architectural Thinking: Ability to design systems that are not only functional but also scalable, secure, and easy to maintain.
• Collaborative Problem Solving: A proactive approach to identifying bottlenecks and a desire to work in a high-energy, team-oriented environment.

• PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSContainerization: Experience with Docker and orchestration via Kubernetes.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Familiarity with configuration management and provisioning tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef.
• Observability: Knowledge of monitoring and logging stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK.
• Cloud Platforms: Experience operating within major cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Prior SRE Experience: A background in Software Engineering or SRE with focus on reducing toil through software automation.
