Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Management
- Monitor and manage patients with multi-organ dysfunction, sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac events, and other critical illnesses.
- Initiate and manage advanced life support, including:
- Mechanical ventilation (invasive/non-invasive)
- Inotropes, vasopressors, and fluid therapy
- Central line and arterial line monitoring
- Perform routine clinical assessments and daily progress notes.
Emergency Response
- Respond to Code Blue and rapid response calls.
- Assist in the initial stabilization of ICU admissions and emergency transfers.
Procedural Duties
- Assist or perform:
- Endotracheal intubation
- Central venous and arterial cannulation
- Chest tube insertions
- Basic bedside ultrasound (if trained)
Leadership & Coordination (Principal MO)
- Supervise junior doctors and interns posted in ICU.
- Coordinate with the ICU nursing team, respiratory therapists, and consultants for patient care.
- Ensure shift handovers and documentation are complete and accurate.
- Assist in duty rostering and medical staffing of the ICU.
Communication & Documentation
- Communicate patient status to consultants and family members.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of clinical notes, drug charts, and procedural documentation.
- Ensure compliance with medico-legal, consent, and documentation protocols.
Infection Control & Safety
- Adhere to ICU protocols, including infection control and isolation precautions.
- Participate in quality assurance, clinical audits, and mortality reviews.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Medical Officer:
- MBBS from a recognized university
- Valid NMC / State Medical Council registration
- 1–3 years' experience in ICU / emergency / high-dependency settings preferred
- Principal Medical Officer:
- MBBS with 5+ years of ICU experience
- Additional certifications in ACLS / BLS / Critical Care Medicine preferred
- Leadership or supervisory experience in hospital settings
Skills & Competencies:
- Sound knowledge of critical care protocols and emergency response
- Skilled in patient monitoring, clinical decision-making, and basic ICU procedures
- Effective team coordination and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Compassionate and ethical approach to patient care
