Job Description

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical & Diagnostic Imaging

  • Perform and interpret SPECT, SPECT-CT, PET-CT, and other nuclear scans.
  • Evaluate functional imaging studies for organs such as the heart, lungs, bones, kidneys, and brain.
  • Collaborate with referring clinicians to guide diagnostic pathways and therapy planning.

2. Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine

  • Administer radioisotope therapies such as Iodine-131 for thyroid diseases, Lutetium-177, and Samarium-153 for cancers, as per protocols.
  • Monitor and manage patients undergoing radionuclide therapy.
  • Maintain compliance with radiation safety protocols.

3. Radiopharmaceutical Handling & Safety

  • Ensure proper procurement, preparation, and handling of radiopharmaceuticals in coordination with radiopharmacists.
  • Maintain strict adherence to radiation safety standards, dosimetry, and regulatory norms.
  • Supervise quality control and calibration of imaging equipment.

4. Patient Care & Education

  • Explain nuclear medicine procedures to patients and address any concerns.
  • Ensure informed consent and provide pre- and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications.

5. Documentation & Reporting

  • Generate detailed clinical reports with findings, impressions, and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all procedures, radiation doses, and reports.
  • Contribute to clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.

6. Teaching & Research (If applicable)

  • Train medical students, radiology residents, or nuclear medicine technologists.
  • Participate in academic activities, CME programs, and research publications.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends in molecular imaging and theranostics.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MBBS + MD / DNB in Nuclear Medicine OR
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Nuclear Medicine (DRM) with relevant experience
  • Valid AERB Certification / BARC Approval (as per country-specific regulations)

Desirable:

  • Experience with PET-CT, oncology imaging, or radionuclide therapy
  • Familiarity with PACS, HIS/RIS systems, and structured reporting
  • Radiation safety officer (RSO) certification (if required)
