Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Academic Duties

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions on:
  • Renal anatomy and physiology
  • Acute and chronic kidney diseases
  • Electrolyte and acid-base imbalances
  • Dialysis (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis)
  • Kidney transplantation (immunosuppressive pharmacology)
  • Pharmacotherapy in nephrology (e.g., diuretics, antihypertensives, phosphate binders)
  • Guide students through clinical case studies and nephrology-related topics.
  • Prepare course materials, conduct assessments, and mentor students.
  • Supervise student research, dissertations, or clinical projects.

Clinical Collaboration (for MBBS/MD faculty or clinically active institutions)

  • Participate in hospital-based teaching (ward rounds, OPD, case presentations).
  • Demonstrate diagnostic techniques (e.g., urinalysis, renal imaging, biopsy interpretation).
  • Provide guidance on management protocols for dialysis and transplantation patients.

Research & Publications

  • Conduct and supervise research in nephrology-related fields such as:
  • CKD epidemiology and prevention
  • Drug dosing in renal impairment
  • Innovations in dialysis and transplant care
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and attend academic conferences.
  • Apply for grants and promote interdisciplinary research.

Administrative & Institutional Roles

  • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum reviews, and academic planning.
  • Serve on committees such as research, ethics, or student welfare.
  • Help organize nephrology workshops, CMEs, or public health awareness events.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MBBS with MD in Internal Medicine and DM in Nephrology (or equivalent)
  • OR for pharmacy institutions: M.Pharm / Pharm.D with specialization in Clinical/Pharmacology, with a focus on renal pharmacotherapy

Desirable:

  • Ph.D. in Nephrology, Renal Pharmacology, or a related field
  • Teaching experience in a medical or pharmacy college
  • Publications in nephrology or renal pharmacotherapy journals

Skills & Competencies

  • In-depth understanding of renal pathophysiology and nephrology pharmacotherapy
  • Ability to integrate clinical knowledge into classroom teaching
  • Strong communication, mentoring, and presentation skills
  • Research and data analysis proficiency
  • Familiarity with e-learning tools and digital medical education platforms
