Key Responsibilities:
Database Management:
Administer, configure, and manage Microsoft SQL Server 2019 environments.
Ensure high availability and disaster recovery planning, using technologies such as Always On Availability Groups, SQL Server Clustering, and Database Mirroring.
Perform regular database backups, restores, and replications to ensure data integrity and availability.
Manage SQL Server security, including permissions, roles, and encryption.
Database Development:
Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server 2019 databases and SQL queries to support business applications.
Optimize SQL queries for performance, ensuring minimal query execution time and optimal resource utilization.
Create and maintain stored procedures, views, functions, and triggers for business logic implementation.
Assist in data migration tasks and ensure smooth integration of SQL Server 2019 with other business systems and applications.
Performance Tuning and Optimization:
Monitor SQL Server performance using built-in tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs).
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, including index optimization, query tuning, and server configurations.
Implement and manage indexes, statistics, and partitioning to ensure optimal query performance.
Backup and Recovery:
Implement and manage backup and restore strategies to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures.
Configure and test disaster recovery plans, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.
Ensure automated backup processes are in place and validated regularly.
Security and Compliance:
Implement SQL Server security best practices, including role-based access control, encryption, and auditing.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to data management and privacy.
Maintain database audit trails, ensuring all changes and accesses are properly logged and monitored.
Troubleshooting and Support:
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for SQL Server 2019 issues, ensuring the stability and performance of the databases.
Investigate and resolve database-related issues, including performance issues, corruption, and data inconsistencies.
Collaborate with development and IT teams to resolve application issues related to the database.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on database configurations, maintenance procedures, and recovery plans.
Generate reports on database performance, resource utilization, and potential risks.
Assist in capacity planning and forecasting resource needs for the databases based on growth projections.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, and business analysts, to gather requirements and deliver database solutions.
Provide support for data migration, ETL processes, and integrations with other systems.
Train and mentor junior database administrators and developers on best practices for database management and development.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server, with strong experience in SQL Server 2019.
Solid understanding of database administration, including backup/recovery, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Proficiency in SQL development, including writing T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views.
Experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, and other SQL Server administration tools.
Strong understanding of security, permissions, and encryption practices within SQL Server.
Knowledge of indexing strategies, query optimization, and database partitioning.
Experience with PowerShell scripting for database automation and management is a plus.
Familiarity with cloud-based SQL environments (e.g., Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
