Job Description
As a Medical Gas Plant Operator specializing in Engineering & Maintenance, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of medical gas production systems within healthcare facilities. This includes overseeing equipment functionality, maintaining operational integrity, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements governing medical gas systems. Your work will directly contribute to patient and staff safety by ensuring the uninterrupted supply of medical gases.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Operate and monitor medical gas production equipment, including compressors, cylinders, storage tanks, and distribution systems, to ensure a continuous and reliable gas supply.
- Ensure optimal performance by regularly inspecting and adjusting equipment as necessary.
Preventive Maintenance
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for medical gas equipment, including compressors, storage tanks, and related components.
- Conduct regular checks and maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of the equipment.
Troubleshooting
- Identify and diagnose operational issues or equipment malfunctions.
- Perform corrective actions promptly to restore equipment functionality and ensure gas supply continuity.
Repairs and Servicing
- Perform repairs, replacements, and servicing of medical gas systems and equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols.
- Ensure all repairs are completed efficiently while adhering to safety standards and quality requirements.
Quality Control
- Monitor and test gas purity levels regularly to ensure compliance with industry standards, including NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulations.
- Take corrective actions when necessary to maintain gas quality.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, repairs, and gas quality tests.
- Ensure all documentation meets regulatory compliance standards and facilitates easy audits.
Safety Compliance
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines governing the operation of medical gas systems, including proper handling of gases, system shutdown procedures, and emergency response protocols.
- Ensure that the working environment complies with all local and national safety standards.
Training and Compliance
- Provide training to healthcare staff on safe handling practices and medical gas system operation procedures.
- Ensure that all personnel are aware of regulatory compliance requirements and are trained to respond to emergencies involving medical gas systems.
Emergency Response
- Respond promptly to emergencies, including equipment failures, gas leaks, or safety hazards.
- Follow established emergency response protocols to mitigate risks and ensure patient and staff safety.
Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments, such as Facilities Management, Biomedical Engineering, and Environmental Health and Safety, to ensure the seamless integration of medical gas systems with the overall healthcare facility infrastructure and operations.
- Assist in facility audits and inspections as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in Medical Gas Systems or Engineering is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of [X] years of experience operating and maintaining medical gas systems, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of medical gas systems, including compressors, cylinders, storage tanks, and distribution systems.
