Machine Shop Manager

We are seeking a highly experienced Machine Shop Manager to oversee a new greenfield project. This role requires a professional with a strong background in project execution and machine shop operations for gears and shafts, along with a deep understanding of CNC machining, quality assurance, and lean manufacturing principles.

Job Role

Project Execution:

• Plan and implement gears & shaft machine shop projects.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including design, maintenance, and quality.
• Perform process planning for machine shop equipment, cutting tools, fixtures, and material handling systems.
• Develop RFQ and support CFT in supplier evaluation.
• Participate in DAP.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of machines.
• Establish process capabilities and perform capacity prove out of the machines.

Technical Oversight:

• Troubleshoot machining issues and optimize cutting parameters, tool selection, and cycle times.
• Review and approve machining drawings, process sheets, and tooling requirements.

Vendor & Resource Management:

• Coordinate with equipment and tool vendors for procurement, commissioning, and servicing.
• Manage and ensure optimal utilization of manpower, machines, and tools.

Quality Assurance:

• Ensure that all machined components meet quality standards and tolerances.
• Collaborate with QA/QC for process audits and improvement actions.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain project timelines, budgets, and reports for management review.
• Document best practices and lessons learned from each project.

After SOP (Start of Production) responsible for Machine shop Operations:

• Monitor daily machining operations to ensure productivity, quality, and delivery targets are met.
• Support the implementation of lean manufacturing, 5S, TPM, and Kaizen initiatives.

Skills Required

• Academic Qualifications: B.E/B.Tech. (2012-2015 pass out) or Diploma (2006-2009 pass out) in Mechanical, Automobile, or Mechatronics, with a minimum of 60% marks.
• Experience: 10-15 years of experience in Machine Shop project execution and operations.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of CNC turning, milling, grinding, and conventional machining.
• Drawing Proficiency: Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Project Management: Skills in managing project timelines, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Systems Knowledge: Hands-on experience with ERP systems and MS Project/Excel.
• Behavioral Competencies: Target-oriented with excellent communication, presentation, execution, and coordination skills.
• Working Knowledge: Familiarity with CNC machine installation and commissioning, and a strong working knowledge of MS Office.
