Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide L2 support for Linux servers and related infrastructure, including Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or other distributions.
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems, patches, and updates.
- Monitor system performance, analyze logs, and troubleshoot hardware/software issues.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and security policies in accordance with IT standards.
- Automate routine tasks using shell scripting (Bash) or other scripting languages.
- Work with storage, network, and backup teams to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Implement security best practices, including firewall configuration, vulnerability assessments, and patch management.
- Support deployment and configuration of applications running on Linux servers.
- Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and incident reports.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to escalated incidents promptly.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for capacity planning and system upgrades.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience as a Linux System Administrator, preferably with L2 support exposure.
- Strong knowledge of Linux OS internals, file systems, process management, and networking.
- Hands-on experience with system monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, etc.).
- Proficient in shell scripting (Bash) and basic automation techniques.
- Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef is a plus.
- Good understanding of security concepts, including SELinux, iptables/firewalld, SSH hardening.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is advantageous.
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex system and network issues.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Desirable Skills:
- Certification such as RHCSA, RHCE, or equivalent Linux certifications.
- Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of database administration (MySQL, PostgreSQL) on Linux.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira).
