Job Description

An IVF Specialist (Infertility Specialist) job involves diagnosing infertility, creating personalized treatment plans, performing procedures like egg retrieval & embryo transfer, managing patient care & counseling, overseeing lab work (with embryologists), and staying current with reproductive medicine, focusing on ethical care and successful pregnancies through treatments like IVF, IUI, & other interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Consultation & Diagnosis: Conduct exams, take histories, analyze tests (ultrasound, labs), and diagnose infertility causes (PCOS, male factor, etc.).
  • Treatment Planning: Develop customized protocols, including hormone stimulation, IUI, IVF, ICSI, and potentially surgical interventions.
  • IVF Procedures: Perform or oversee critical steps like ovum pick-up, embryo transfer, sperm/embryo handling (often with embryologists).
  • Patient Care: Provide extensive counseling, manage patient expectations, offer emotional support, and explain complex procedures/results.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with embryologists, nurses, and support staff for seamless care.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain meticulous records and ensure adherence to ART regulations and ethical standards.
  • Research & Development: Stay updated with latest techniques, participate in clinical research, and maintain high clinical standards.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Medical degree (MD/DO), specialization in Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN), and often a Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine (FRM) or similar.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in ultrasound, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, & IVF lab procedures.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, empathy, leadership, problem-solving, and stress management.
