IT Manager – Software Development

In this role as Software Development Engineering Manager you will lead a multidisciplinary group of software development, test, and SRE engineers delivering services to all divisions across Medtronic supporting their software development and containerization/Kubernetes enablement work. In addition, you will use your technical leadership skills, your recruiting and hiring skills, and your team building and cultural awareness skills to provide leadership and mentorship to build and lead a local team of software, test, and SRE engineers.  And finally, you will personally be a member of technical staff actively designing, developing, and shipping production code.

A Day in the Life

• Lead a highly technical team consisting of full-stack software engineers, DevOps engineers, SREs, and test engineers and provide mentorship to team members while effectively guiding them in product development and in their careers
• Provide thought leadership and ownership of software development, testing, and SRE engineering while delivering best-in-class CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines, cloud, container, and Kubernetes provisioning and management
• Be a leader in helping onboard new technologies as you coordinate with Medtronic's domain experts and key functional partners to deliver ground-breaking services for their business needs
• Work closely with Security, Infrastructure, Quality, and other critical teams to build unified services which integrate their standardized methodologies into end-to-end services for our business customers
• Help manage preferred technology vendors, introduce solutions that meet business objectives, and lead POCs which drive new end-to-end solutions for Medtronic
• Participate in working with the team's product owners and help define and drive communication of the technical vision/roadmap to all teams and divisions across Medtronic
• Refine and improve current team SDLC processes, continuous delivery, automated testing, and build business justifications for new services
• Continue building a strong culture of high-quality engineering practices, continuous learning, and growing multi-functional collaboration
• Provide leadership and expertise to your teams who own, design and run Medtronic's DevSecOps, monitoring, and cloud management platforms
• Have solid communication skills capable of positively interacting with and resolving issues from clients, technical staff, and managers from across multiple business units and technical teams

Qualifications

 Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of related experience
• 5+ years of managerial experience, which includes goal settings and performance management.

• Demonstrated ability building and leading software development teams who have designed and delivered commercially shipping software product or services
• Solid system design and architecture experience. Experience leading agile development and delivering globally deployed systems with high availability
• Demonstrated people management experience building strong teams. Show a passion for people management and mentorship
• Possess a deep knowledge of software development, build processes, languages, and related services (for example, Python, C++, Java and/or JS, messaging protocols, identity and security, and web services)
• Experience designing and delivering production cloud solutions, virtual and containerized platforms, and running operational management practices and frameworks

• Shown success collaborating with the multi-functional teams to drive customer satisfaction, exceed customer expectations, and create and implement business plans to accelerate the adoption of new services
• Strong verbal/written communication and inter-personal skills
• Understand security, risk and compliance frameworks, disaster recovery, high availability architectures, hardware, operating systems and networking connectivity
• Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and being consistent and measured while working under uncertainty.
• Hands on experience with GenAI/ML will be a plus
• Experience working in a medical regulated environment considered a plus
