Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Group Leader in Property Accounting to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned finance and accounting professional who can effectively guide a team of accountants, coordinate financial statements for a group of clients, and ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role involves managing daily operations, interacting with clients and auditors, and driving a culture of accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Management: Manage a team of accountants, ensuring adherence to daily activities and supervising the review of rent rolls, bank reconciliations, and monthly operating results. Facilitate hiring and conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Client and Financial Reporting: Ensure the timely delivery of financial statements according to client agreements. Conduct regular interactions and discussions with clients regarding the financial performance of their properties.
  • Quality and Accuracy: Take responsibility for the accuracy of financial statements prepared by the team. Review CAM reconciliation, management fee calculations, accruals, current liabilities, and aging reports (AR, AP & BRS).
  • Process Improvement: Coordinate with the Controller, CFO, and other Assistant Controllers to establish and implement departmental goals and policies. Provide recommendations for procedural improvements and support financial audit requests.
  • Budgeting and Reporting: Coordinate with the operational team to prepare and approve financial budgets. Generate reports for review and analysis, such as variance analysis, balance sheets, and P&L.
  • Team Efficiency: Manage team efficiency and provide staffing recommendations to meet expected performance metrics.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Skills:
  • Deep understanding of financial concepts as applicable in the US commercial landscape.
  • Proven organizational skills, with a strong ability to multitask and a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent critical reasoning, analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with ERPs such as Yardi, Entrata, and Real Page.
  • Proficient with MS Office, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Macros, and Power BI is a plus.
  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting.
  • M.Com, MBA (Finance & Accounting), or CPA preferred.
  • Familiarity with multi-family, student housing, and affordable housing property management and accounting is a plus.
