Job Description
We are seeking a Furnace Technician to join our heat treatment team. The ideal candidate will be a skilled Heat Treat Operator responsible for setting up and operating heating equipment to treat metal or plastic objects. This role requires a strong understanding of heat treatment processes, including determining temperatures, cycles, and quenching media to achieve specific material properties.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Set up, operate, or tend heating equipment, such as flame-hardening machines and vacuum equipment, to temper, harden, and anneal metal or plastic objects.
- Process Management: Read production schedules and work orders to determine the correct processing sequences, furnace temperatures, and heat cycle requirements.
- Quality Control: Examine parts to ensure metal shades and colors conform to specifications. Record times that parts are removed from furnaces to document that they've reached specified temperatures for the correct duration.
- Technical Application: Determine the types and temperatures of baths and quenching media needed to attain specified part hardness, toughness, and ductility.
- Control Adjustment: Adjust controls to maintain temperatures and heating times using thermal instruments, dials, and gauges.
Skills Required
- Education: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, ITI, BE, or any equivalent qualification.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of heat treatment principles, including tempering, hardening, annealing, and flame-hardening.
- Precision and Attention to Detail: The ability to read and interpret production schedules and work orders accurately.
- Instrument Proficiency: Experience with thermal instruments, dials, and gauges to monitor and adjust furnace controls.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to determine the appropriate heating cycles and quenching media based on material properties.
