Environment Manager For Manufacturing Industry

Key Responsibilities

Sustainability & Environmental Compliance

• Liaison with CPCB, SPCB, MoEFCC for Environmental Clearance (EC), Consent to Establish (CTE), Consent to Operate (CTO), and submission of required returns.
• Manage effluent treatment systems (MEE, RO, ETP) and ensure compliance with pollution control board guidelines.
• Maintain legal register for regulatory compliance and conduct regular reviews.
• Handle hazardous waste per Hazardous Waste (M&H) Rules.
• Monitor effluents, hazardous waste, and ambient air quality per standards.
• Plan and implement cleaner production and waste minimization/recycling programs.

Strategy & Governance

• Liaison with DISH, Health Inspector, and CCOE.
• Develop and implement Environmental Strategy, objectives, and EHS improvement plans.
• Formulate environmental policies and global standards; coordinate environmental audits with corporate teams.
• Train senior leadership on safety and environmental standards.
• Form and manage Environmental Steering Committees; track environmental performance via scorecards.

Environmental Systems & Culture Building

• Implement and maintain OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, and Process Safety Management (DuPont model).
• Conduct risk identification, CAPA tracking, and safety promotional activities.
• Drive employee engagement in environmental initiatives and behavior-based safety programs.
• Ensure contractor safety management and permit-to-work compliance.

Risk Management

• Conduct risk assessments for machinery, chemicals, ergonomics, PPE requirements, and process safety.
• Ensure environmental considerations in technology transfer, scale-up, HAZOP studies, pre-startup safety reviews, and shutdown safety.

Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness

• Calculate fire load, maintain firefighting systems, smoke detectors, and alarms.
• Install and maintain fire hydrant, suppression, and detection systems.
• Form and train emergency response teams; conduct mock drills and update emergency action plans.

Occupational Health & Safety

• Monitor work areas, machinery hazards, laboratory safety, and manual/toolbox talk implementation.
• Develop lock-out/tag-out systems and ensure PPE compliance.
• Conduct ergonomic studies, health surveillance, and exposure mitigation for dust, vapors, and fumes.

Functional Area Competency

• Advise management on environmental obligations and risk mitigation.
• Conduct safety audits, HAZOP, JSA, HIRA, and process safety management procedures.
• Provide expert guidance on managing highly hazardous chemicals (Ethylene Oxide, CS2, SO3, Cl2, NH3, etc.) and emergency situations.

Management Systems

• Associate MR for ISO 45001; lead employee safety and health initiatives.
• Certified member of PSRM (DuPont & Prism) and internal auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001.
