The role requirement for the current & potential partnerships with OUs would require:
• Experience in leading large, complex, cross functional engineering teams.
• Experience in software development life cycle including SaMD and capital equipment.
• Product development experience; preferably in Medical device and MNC
• Cross functional knowledge from regulatory and compliance perspective
• Experience / critical exposure in product security/Internet of Things/ Data Science
The individual would have functional reporting to the Senior Engineering Director Software and Systems, MEIC and would be on Staff/ attend staff meetings of VPs of R & D for the OU and work with Global R & D and cross functional Leaders across multiple OUs in the Cardiovascular portfolio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with Sr Director SW & Systems in formulating vision and strategy in collaboration with the global Operating Unit leadership, sustaining / initiating - growing engagements with the Global R&D Units
Leads his/ her team in delivering on commitments, creating solutions, accelerating innovation with focus on engineering excellence
Develops and maintains a deep technical understanding of OUs product lines and technologies
Collaborates with Director of software in building software excellence in Cardiovascular Portfolio partnerships/programs
Defines the engineering skill sets that best align to OUs needs and creates a staffing strategy
Builds a superior team; establishes and maintains a high-performance culture
Sets clear, aggressive departmental goals, expectations, and standards for performance
Develops and institutionalizes world-class product engineering practices and policies
Continually improves team product knowledge and technical skills
Develops a departmental budget and manages expenses in line with organizational objectives; approves departmental expenditures including capital and manpower expenses
Works with HR to develops career paths for employees, provides coaching, recommends retention policies, and conducts salary planning for department staff
Collaborates with the Program Management Office project planning including scope definition, resource allocation, scheduling, and communication
Drives successful project execution working collaboratively with Program / project Managers; provides leadership to teams when faced with technical challenges, critical trade-off decisions, and other project obstacles
Reviews work output to ensure project objectives and quality standards are being achieved
Communicates departmental status and project reports to upper management as required
Ensures all policies and procedures comply with Medtronic quality system and ethical standards
Would be accountable to meet Organizational level Goals: OHS & Ethics

Typically has mastery level knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with broad understanding of other areas within the job function.
Business Communication : Requires ability to be articulate and able to efficiently communicate with senior leaderships
PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The individual would work closely with other cross functional teams to ensure proper communication, resource management, and skill development across departments. Builds trusting relationships with Global R&D and MEIC leadership including regional and corporate organizations where needed; is the primary contact for the Engineering R&D function for the OU(s). He/ she would also be accountable for Relationship Management with all stakeholders internal at MEIC, Operating Units, ISC and APAC regional leaders and also with external stakeholders (Academia/ KOLs/ Government /Innovation Hubs etc).
Minimum of 18+ years of applicable work experience in a Product, Software Product engineering R&D role in a global team environment
Management experience in enhancing -leading Global Capability Centers in Engineering R&D. Prior experience in a large MNC preferred
Prior experience of minimum 3 years in managing Senior Engineering managers and being in a Strategic Leadership role with accountability of larger software, systems teams
Minimum of 8 years of hands-on software development critical experience in implementing large to medium complex software architectures (Cloud/Web/Mobile apps )
Proven experience in managing large, complex technology initiatives of strategic importance to the organization involving cross-functional teams.
Experience owning, supervising and delivering concurrent software releases using iterative/agile techniques, ensuring on-time delivery and good quality.
Prior experience working with cross –cultural teamwork experience is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:
Demonstrated expertise in the field of product development and product engineering
Experience leading a product development project from concept to commercialization desirable
Proven track record identifying and executing complex engineering projects
Ability to build and lead a new department within a large, diverse MNC; includes strategic development and implementation
Ability to author policies, procedures and coach new employees
Experience in the areas of design for six sigma, Quality through design and Systems Engineering
Strong technical background with exposure to mechanical, electronics, and software engineering
Experience with hardware / software quality and reliability testing
Experience in Firmware development and must be comfortable with SW development practices and models
Demonstrated success executing complex engineering projects with diverse technical teams
Management of globally dispersed teams preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, negotiating; managing change; goal setting; planning and organizing teamwork; ability to address difficult situations
Must possess managerial courage; must be confident managing risks and making decisions that will likely have a large impact on organizational objectives
