Country Manager- Sales API (US Market)
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Key Account Manager – USA Market will be responsible for managing and expanding business relationships with major U.S. customers in the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) sector. The role requires strong communication skills, a solid understanding of technical, regulatory, and commercial aspects of API manufacturing and export, and the ability to lead cross-functional internal teams to ensure seamless execution of client requirements. The candidate will play a critical role in achieving an annual sales growth target of 25% over the existing revenue base of USD 7 million.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Relationship & Communication
- Act as the single point of contact for all commercial interactions with U.S.-based customers.
- Manage weekly performance calls with the client's technical team by preparing agendas and providing updates in coordination with internal departments (PPIC, QA, Regulatory, Supply Chain, etc.).
- Ensure clear and timely communication with clients, proactively addressing issues to avoid escalation.
Forecasting & Planning
- Maintain and update forecasts for all client products.
- Prepare annual budgets and five-year sales projections.
- Align internal stakeholders with client's forecast through regular updates, dashboards, and review meetings.
Order & License Management
- Ensure all necessary Purchase Orders and production/dispatch Licenses are received in time.
- Track and facilitate closure of gaps in POs and Licenses by timely follow-up and escalation.
- Maintain a License tracker and ensure alignment with client expectations.
Supply Chain & Production Coordination
- Monitor procurement, transit, and inventory of critical raw materials to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Maintain the Material Requirement Planning (MRP) sheet based on forecast and production commitments.
- Track deliveries against forecasts and reconcile differences in coordination with client and internal teams.
Regulatory & Quality Coordination
- Act as liaison for Quality and Regulatory teams for client feedback, change control approvals, and other regulatory matters.
- Drive discussions on capacity enhancement, solvent recovery/reuse proposals, and compliance updates.
Receivables & Financial Coordination
- Monitor the client's outstanding payments in coordination with Finance.
- Ensure timely follow-up for collections and highlight overdue amounts for immediate action.
Reporting & MIS
- Prepare daily meeting notes, dashboards, and pipeline reports for internal and client-facing meetings.
- Maintain and circulate MIS reports for internal stakeholders including rolling plan updates based on client forecasts.
- Deliver 1+4 month projections and ensure alignment with internal and client expectations.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Drive internal team meetings involving Production, Regulatory, Licensing, Quality, and Supply Chain functions to ensure timely execution of client deliverables.
- Foster collaboration and timely communication within diverse functional teams.
Educational Qualification:
- Graduate in Science, Pharmacy, or related discipline (mandatory)
- MBA or post-graduate degree in Business/International Marketing will be an advantage
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in API/Pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on international sales and key account management
- Experience working with major USA-based clients is essential
- Prior exposure to commercial operations, supply chain coordination, and regulatory interactions is preferred
