Job Description
The Consultant – Ophthalmology will be responsible for the diagnosis, medical and surgical management of disorders related to the eye and visual system. The role includes outpatient and inpatient care, surgical interventions, and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, diagnose ocular diseases, and plan appropriate treatment.
- Manage conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, refractive errors, and other anterior/posterior segment diseases.
- Perform common ophthalmic surgeries including cataract extraction with IOL implantation (phacoemulsification), pterygium excision, DCR, etc.
- Provide postoperative care and manage surgical complications effectively.
- Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures like OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing, tonometry, etc.
- Prescribe corrective lenses and provide low-vision support when necessary.
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records.
- Educate patients on preventive eye care, chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes-related eye issues), and post-surgical care.
- Collaborate with optometrists, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
- Participate in academic activities, health camps, and community outreach programs (if applicable).
- Keep abreast of the latest advancements and best practices in ophthalmology.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Clinical and Surgical Skills:
- Proficiency in diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye diseases.
- Skilled in cataract surgery and minor ophthalmic procedures.
- Experience with diagnostic imaging and equipment (slit lamp, retinoscope, ophthalmoscope, OCT, etc.).
- Knowledge of pre-operative evaluation and post-operative management.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and patient counseling abilities.
- Empathy and patience, especially with pediatric and geriatric patients.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude.
Professional and Technical Skills:
