Job Description

A Branch Credit Manager's job includes evaluating creditworthiness, approving or denying loan applications, and managing the branch's credit portfolio to maximize profitability while minimizing risk. Key responsibilities involve analyzing financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies, monitoring delinquencies, and preparing credit reports. The role also requires managing staff training, handling customer inquiries, and contributing to credit policy feedback.

Core responsibilities

  • Credit analysis and underwriting: Evaluate the creditworthiness of potential and existing customers by analyzing financial statements, credit history, and other relevant information.
  • Loan management: Approve or deny loan applications, set credit limits, and negotiate loan terms based on company policy and risk assessment.
  • Risk mitigation: Monitor the credit portfolio for potential risks, manage delinquencies, and work to keep Non-Performing Assets (NPA) within budget.
  • Compliance: Ensure all lending and credit-related activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Portfolio monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as approval rates and turnaround times (TAT).
  • Reporting and analysis: Prepare and present credit reports and analysis to senior management. Provide feedback on credit policy based on underwriting experience.
  • Staff management and training: Train branch staff on credit-related matters, provide guidance, and handle customer inquiries related to credit decisions.
  • Relationship management: Visit customers to assess requirements, conduct business and income assessments, and follow up on loan renewals or settlements.
