Blood Bank Technician

Key Responsibilities:

1. Blood Collection & Donor Management

• Conduct blood collection through venipuncture from voluntary and replacement donors.
• Assist in organizing blood donation camps and ensure proper donor registration and screening.
• Monitor donor safety during and after donation, managing any adverse reactions appropriately.
• Label and document collected blood units accurately.

2. Testing & Processing

• Perform blood grouping, cross-matching, antibody screening, and transfusion-transmitted infection (TTI) testing (HIV, HBV, HCV, syphilis, malaria).
• Separate blood components (PRBC, FFP, platelets, cryoprecipitate) using centrifugation and other equipment.
• Maintain proper labeling and documentation of all blood products.

3. Inventory & Storage Management

• Monitor the storage conditions of blood and components using refrigerators, deep freezers, and platelet agitators.
• Maintain stock records and ensure timely disposal of expired or unfit blood products as per SOPs.
• Issue blood and components against valid requisitions, ensuring correct matching and documentation.

4. Quality Control & Safety

• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and biosafety guidelines at all times.
• Participate in internal and external quality control programs.
• Maintain equipment calibration and cleanliness of the work area.
• Handle biomedical waste safely as per infection control norms.

5. Record Keeping & Reporting

• Maintain donor and recipient records, test reports, issue registers, and quality control logs.
• Assist in preparing regulatory reports for licensing authorities (e.g., FDA, NACO, NABH).
• Support audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) / B.Sc. MLT / PG Diploma in Transfusion Technology.
• Registration with relevant paramedical council (if applicable).
• 1–3 years of experience in a licensed blood bank or transfusion service.
